A happy Evennight (equinox) to all!
I spent part of the day in the garden, enjoying the aftermath of our rains. Lunch was picked fresh from the veggie beds and pots.
The pumpkins I planted at Midsummer are going great guns. (Pix tomorrow - too tired now.) Two huge pumpkins and three that are softball sized. Looking forward to pumpkin bread, pies, soups....ah, fall!
Tonight we had the pleasure of seeing the final dress rehearsal of "The Firebird" performed by Festival Ballet Albuquerque to the music of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra. (We are booked all weekend and can't get to any of the performances - but YOU can!) "Firebird" is the finale of a delightful evening of music accented by dance.
The Symphony was exquisite. Just marvelous - I must get to more of their performances. As an amateur musician, I can appreciate the skill it takes to make a dozen violins sound like one voice. I kept thinking of Sam Rhodes (bassoonist who passed away just last week), who I believe would have been part of this performance. He will be sorely missed. To me, this "Firebird" was a tribute to him.
Festival Ballet Albuquerque extends their debut season with another great performance. Jennifer Boren is stunning as the Firebird, her movements birdlike and alien, her dancing both expressive and precise. The whole company is strong, including the trio who augment "Hansel and Gretel" earlier in the program.
If you're in the Albuquerque area, treat yourself to this performance. You won't regret it.
